1. Luciana — Mamilla Boulevard, near Jaffa Gate
Mehadrin dairy Italian with the Old City walls a few minutes away.
Luciana sits in the Mamilla Mall complex just outside Jaffa Gate, which is one of the best-positioned restaurant addresses in Jerusalem — the Old City walls are a short walk down the promenade, and the whole quarter is built from the same pale limestone.
The kitchen is dairy Italian, with handmade pasta, artisanal pizza and fresh salads, and it holds a Jerusalem Rabbinate mehadrin certificate rather than the basic one. That combination of a stricter standard with a prime tourist location is genuinely uncommon.
It works equally well as a lunch between sightseeing and a proper dinner, and the outdoor tables on the Mamilla promenade are the ones to ask for.
Good to know: Ask for a table on the Mamilla promenade — the walk down to Jaffa Gate afterwards is the point.
