1. Nini Hachi — Old North, 228 Ben Yehuda Street
A full kosher izakaya — the most complete Japanese menu certified in Israel.
Nini Hachi is the most convincing kosher Japanese restaurant in the country, and it works by leaning into the meat classification rather than around it. As a bassari kitchen it serves meat and fish and no dairy, which lets it run a full izakaya menu instead of a sushi counter alone.
The range is genuinely wide: hand-rolled sushi and sashimi, teppanyaki, wok noodles and kushiyaki skewers off the grill. It feels like a proper izakaya — dark, busy, built for ordering in waves across the table rather than a plate each, which is also the best way to eat here.
On Ben Yehuda in the Old North, it is an easy walk from most of the northern hotels, which makes it one of the more practical picks for visitors.
Good to know: Order in rounds and let the kitchen pace it — skewers and raw fish arrive as they are ready, not in courses.
