1. HaKosem — Shlomo HaMelech Street, Tel Aviv
The most consistently recommended counter in the country, and it earns it.
HaKosem — 'the magician' — is the Tel Aviv counter that both locals and visitors name first, and unusually it deserves the reputation on both the falafel and the shawarma.
The meat is carved to order, the salads are fresh and refilled constantly, and the operation runs at a speed that keeps the spit turning properly all day.
There is almost always a queue at lunch. It moves fast and it is worth standing in.
Good to know: Order the laffa rather than the pita, and take a free falafel ball from the counter while you wait.
