1. Gan HaHashmal — Central Tel Aviv
A small design quarter that is mostly jewellers, and the best place to start.
Gan HaHashmal is a compact design district south of Rothschild, built around a small park, that filled with independent designers when the rents were low and is now the densest concentration of jewellery studios in Tel Aviv.
The work skews contemporary and conceptual — the graduates of Bezalel and Shenkar who wanted a studio rather than a shop — and most of the spaces are workshop and retail combined, so the maker is usually the person selling to you.
It is a few streets in total, which makes it the most efficient jewellery shopping in the country.
Good to know: Ask to see what is on the bench. Most of these are working studios and there is always more than is displayed.
